The Velociraptor Air Cleaner

You know you need a good amount of airflow to the engine to get the most performance out of your bike. The stock H-D filter and intake works OK but is it the best for your bike or could a little more airflow help to squeak out a few more horsepower? Due to strict noise and pollution requirements there is a compromise with how much the stock airbox is allowed to flow. If you live in a big city like Los Angeles or El Paso you know just how dirty and dusty the air can get. Having a good air filter system on your bike is important.

On the other side is the styling of the stock H-D air box; not much has changed since the Twin Cam was introduced. Most of us want to get away from the stock look and add something to make the bike stand out, and if you can get some performance at the same time, it’s a bonus. This is what we found when we came across the new Velociraptor Air Cleaner kit from Küryakyn: more airflow into the motor and more style then stock.

The kit comes with the Velociraptor Air Cleaner outer assembly with a tapered inner cone and outer ring, a pre-oiled K&N round washable filter, an adapter breather plate, outer screen, head breather bolts, 8 inches of breather hose, adapter tubes, and gaskets.

We stopped by Freedom Cycles in Orange, California, where a customer ordered a Velociraptor for his ’10 Road Glide. The bike was getting some service work done to the fuel system, so the gas tank had been removed at the time of the install, allowing us to get a few good shots of the Velociraptor Air Cleaner installation. With the Velociraptor kit retailing for $159.95, the bike owner felt this was an inexpensive way to get some unclaimed horsepower. The bike is also awaiting some new pipes. For best performance and to avoid damage to the motor, the fuel and ignition maps should be mapped for the new components.B

10. There you have it. Once Kazoo had the gas tank back on the bike, he fired it up and checked for any intake leaks. With no leaks, it was taken out for a testride. The owner was happy with the throttle response and loved the look. He’ll be even happier when he gets a freer-flowing exhaust.
