An embossed Bar and Shield is on each side of the grip. A great feature is the built-in ridge (arrow) that allows installation of the left grip without needing adhesive.

It seems like for decades now Harley-Davidson has been using their standard rubber grips. While I must admit hating them back in the day, they surely do work well under all riding conditions. Their attractiveness is debatable though but easily remedied, especially on the newer throttle-by-wire throttle assembly. There’s no more little cable ferrules to lose or cables to loosen and adjust. We got our hands on a new set of chrome Get-A-Grip, magnum diameter grips (56100015, $79.95) for our ’11 Road Glide Ultra. The grips are also available in black. See your local H-D dealer or log onto harley-davidson.com for more information.

  • 10. Moving to the left, the procedure was about the same. The only major difference is the left grip is glued on at the factory. You can either cut off the old grip, or spend an hour like we did trying to massage and coax it off to preserve the old grip.

  • 12. The ridge in the left grip (see photo 1) fits snugly inside the switch housing and allows perfect alignment of the Bar and Shield. No glue necessary. The new grips add a nice custom touch to the bars and are comfortable. Not too soft or hard. The price is right in the middle of comparably made grips on the market.
