I am a sucker for black on black helmets, so I was really into trying out another when the box from Fulmer showed up. I have ridden my high-dollar Darth Vaderesque Shark helmet for the last two years, so this skid lid had some big shoes to fill.
At initial pull on, the Fulmer D4 helmet ($109) fit well, was lightweight, and had good peripheral vision. Once I got on the bike and rode with the helmet it felt comfortable and didn't have as much buffeting as many other brands I have tested. The adjustable chin and top vents worked well and kept the shield from fogging up during the 80 to 90 degree days I was riding in. As far as protection goes, The D4 is constructed well and DOT approved, but not Snell, which is fine by me, but it may thwart some buyers. The only downfall of this helmet I found was the varying wind noise I experienced, but if you ride with earplugs this wouldn't bother you.
After riding this helmet for more than a month, I would say that it is a good helmet that is well designed and rivals some helmets costing four times its price. Call (800) 489-2300 or fulmerhelmets.com for more info.
