K&N intake install

We wanted better looks and a more powerful than stock intake. After looking at a few filter kits, we decided to go with a K&N RK series of intakes strictly for their reputation alone. The key factor in the equation was their filter medium, which is comprised of pleated and oiled cotton gauze that is layered between two sheets of aluminum wire mesh. The patented design stops the harmful particulate matter while letting massive amounts of clean air into the induction system. For our given application, we used part number RK-3901, which is a beautiful air cleaner that is machined from aluminum and chrome-plated to a mirrorlike finish. Once the air cleaner was installed, all we had to do was just a bit of tinkering on our carb in the air/fuel mixture department to get the bike running right.

(5.)Before the K&N backing plate goes onto the carburetor, a new gasket must be installed to ensure a gapless seal. Air leaks are not your friend.

(7.)We now install the preoiled K&N filter, making sure it fits into the groove in the backing plate mount and seals tightly.

(8.)The chrome-plated filter cover is installed and tightened firmly to the backing plate with two lock washers, nuts and some blue Loctite.
