Overall Rating: * *

It's always cool when a part is designed so well that it functions exactly like the original part while hiding another vital component. Unconventional design requires the necessary components of a motorcycle, but it's fun to wonder about how a builder put the pieces together when it appears as though a vital segment is missing. Tauer Machine's three-inch open belt primary was designed with that thinking-the oil filter is hidden between the belt and pulleys and the outer cover doubles as an oil cooler.

We wanted to see how Tauer's open belt drive worked, so we went over to Freedom Cycles in Orange, California to install the drive on a late model Evo custom.
