1. The Quick Change Oil System...
1. The Quick Change Oil System kit from Jerrys Rigs Systems is nicely done. The mount we chose has a satin finish on the aluminum parts and the fittings are all chrome-plated.
Oil is the lifeblood of any engine. It keeps the internal engine parts cool, clean and lubricated. Clean oil does this job better than dirty oil. To insure an adequate supply of clean oil for the engine, it should be passed through some type of filter that will trap all of the junk that somehow finds its way inside the engine or oil tank. Not all oil filters are created equal. The same holds true for oil filter mounts. All big twin Harleys produced over the past few years have an oil filter mount built into or bolted to the front of the engine cases. While this is a nice, compact mounting system, some riders may want a remote oil filter mount, where the filter itself is out in the airstream adding to the cooling of the oil. For those kind of riders, we have a remote oil filter mount from Jerrys Rigs Systems. It consists of a remote filter mount that clamps onto a framerail of your choice, as well as an adapter, fittings and hose to complete the kit. A new oil filter for your model engine and a quart of oil is all that's needed for installing the kit. This is unless, of course, you have planned the installation of the remote oil filter kit at a scheduled oil change. On our end, we didn't have one scheduled. Once the kit was installed, we cleaned up the oil on the cases and topped off the oil in the tank.
The whole job took about an hour with handtools and an oil filter wrench.
 2. The kit comes with three... 2. The kit comes with three sheets of paper; one of those sheets is this diagram. The diagram shows the location of all the parts and how to route the hoses. The other pieces of paper explain the warranty and the last piece is the written instructions for the kit. | 3. We used the H-D oil filter... 3. We used the H-D oil filter wrench to remove the filter from the Twin Cam Mule (TCM). The cutout in the wrench allows the tool to clear the crankshaft position sensor (arrow). | 4. The adapter from the kit... 4. The adapter from the kit is an aluminum cone that uses the old oil filter gasket (A) to seal against the stock filter mount. The adapter is fastened to the stock mount by a threaded fitting (B) that passes through the adapter. The threaded hole (C) is for the second oil line fitting. |
