Born on the Rubicon Trail when an off-road enthusiast needed to change a universal joint, the portable vise is an invaluable tool for mechanics, racers, contractors or anyone that needs to make repairs on the go.

Engineered to mount in a trailer receiver like a traditional ball mount, the D-Vise weighs only 17 pounds, yet has all the features of a full-size 8-inch vise, including high-grip SlipNot surfacing jaws, a convex pipe holder and a built-in CNC-cut adjustment wrench. The compact design allows it to fit easily behind the seat of a truck or in most tool boxes. Using the Trail D-Vise is simple, just slide the vise into the receiver and tighten it down with the included Mac's billet wrench. To prevent theft, the hitch pin cannot be removed without a socket or wrench once the Trail D-Vise is slightly tightened down in the receiver.

Everyone from plumbers to bikers will have a use for the Trail D-Vise. The jaws will easily hold 2"x4" or pipe tubes for contractors on worksites. Fishermen and hunters can make equipment adjustments right at their vehicle. Every motorsports fan has experienced the disappointment of a day on the trail or at the track with broken parts. The Trail D-Vice can make the difference between a day behind the wheel or on the trail and a day spent sitting in the pits. The Trail D-Vise can even be mounted to a work bench using the optional square tube table receiver. It's perfect for small or temporary work spaces. Like all Mac's Custom Tie-Down products, the Trail D-Vise is designed and manufactured in the USA with the highest quality domestic materials.

Mac's Custom Tie-Downs was founded in 1993, when founder Colin McLemore realized there was a need for high quality tie-down systems for trailers and truck beds. Mac's patented VersaTie System sets new standards in vehicle tie-down safety and technology. Mac's Tie-Downs has a complete line of track, connectors, deck and specialty hardware and a complete line of tie-down straps. All products are made to the highest quality and strength standards. Special features include: double stitching on straps, CNC machining on all track, highest grade connector materials, and simple, easy-to-use components. Female motorcyclists have been the fastest growing demographic in the motorcycle industry since 1990, when women represented just three percent of riders. Today, women represent 23 percent of all motorcyclists , and in an effort to encourage this growing trend of women hitting the open road, Harley-Davidson is celebrating National Garage Party Month by hosting nearly 400 Garage Party events at dealerships across the country in March.

“Garage Party events have encouraged thousands of women to learn to ride over the past few years,” said Leslie Prevish, women’s outreach manager for Harley-Davidson Motor Company. “The events help educate and build confidence for new female riders, and March kicks off the beginning of riding season, so it’s the perfect time to get women involved.”
As part of National Garage Party Month, the Motor Company is kicking off a sweepstakes that will run March 1 - 31, 2010, where one woman and three of her friends will be rewarded with a spa retreat weekend in Los Angeles to learn to ride through the Rider’s Edge® New Rider Course. The lucky women will also meet TV wellness expert Jillian Michaels, and get some tips on leading a healthier life. Michaels, a Harley-Davidson rider and life-long motorcycle enthusiast, recently forged a partnership with the Motor Company to encourage more women to participate in the sport. Women can enter the sweepstakes by attending a Garage Party event or online by visiting www.h-d.com/garageparty.
GARAGE PARTY EVENTS
Garage Party events, hosted by Harley-Davidson dealers since 2005, have been developed specifically for women, creating an intimidation-free zone and an opportunity for female riders in local communities to connect with one another. These free events are designed to be both fun and educational – covering topics such as a review of the basic motorcycle controls, how to customize a motorcycle’s style and ergonomics, and how to gear up for a ride. During Garage Party events, the attendees are organized into small groups, getting their first taste of the camaraderie that goes along with riding.
Groups visit four informational seminars throughout the event, including:
• Motorcycle Orientation: learn the basics of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle model families.
• MotorClothes®: discover the differences between riding and non-riding gear.
• Customization: learn how to customize a motorcycle to reflect a rider’s personal style and fit any body type using the H-D® Fit Shop™ at participating dealers. The H-D® Fit Shop™ experience illustrates the benefits of tailoring a motorcycle to the rider.
• How to Pick-up a Motorcycle: find out how to handle the weight of a motorcycle, including an interactive experience demonstrating how to pick up a dropped motorcycle – for those who are interested in trying it out.
Women interested in taking the next step can also visit www.h-d.com/roadmap to access the Harley-Davidson ®Roadmap to Riding online tool. For example, most Harley exhaust systems come with twin mufflers, and have done so for longer than most people can remember. But if you really do your horsepower homework, you’ll find that two-into-one systems make more power, especially down low in the rev range where the engine spends most of its life. We’ve been building the Road Rage two-into-one for more than 20 years, and now it’s available for 2010 FLH Harley-Davidsons.

The Road Rage’s exceptional power curve starts with stepped, equal-length header pipes that boost power where you need it the most—down low. Think about how seldom you rev a Big Twin to redline, and how often you snap the throttle open at low rpm to pass a truck or climb a grade, and you’ll see the wisdom of our approach. Equal-length header pipes, which come with with 12mm and 18mm O2 sensor ports and plugs, let the exhaust gases flow smoothly through the system without restriction, and pull the spent fuel away from the exhaust valves so the incoming charge isn’t contaminated. The result is optimal cylinder filling at low rpm, where other systems just sputter and choke.

There’s as much goodness outside each Road Rage system as there is inside. Each system comes with a 4-inch megaphone muffler and full-coverage heat shields to keep the pipes looking their best mile after mile. Polished billet aluminum end caps are standard, too, and come with milled grooves for a subtle touch of styling. The fiberglass-wrapped baffles are removable for easy servicing, and every Road Rage system uses the stock mounts for a true bolt-on installation.

The Road Rage line of exhausts has always been a top seller for us, and its reputation in the aftermarket earned it the V-Twin Expo’s Best Product of 2009 award. The Road Rage for 2010 FLH models comes in chrome or satin black, and both come with polished billet aluminum end caps. Its unique design and power characteristics mean the Road Rage will perform well on engines displacing between 80 and 131 inches.

Don’t get so hung up on tradition that you can’t see the facts about performance two-into-one exhausts. Champions four of the past six seasons in the Pro Stock Motorcycle division of the National Hot Rod Association® Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, the Screamin’ Eagle / Vance & Hines team wins with American V-Twin powered Harley-Davidson V-Rod® motorcycles. Plus, it teams up two of the best riders in the world, former champions Andrew Hines and Eddie Krawiec.

“We had one of our most successful seasons ever in 2009,” said Screamin’ Eagle / Vance & Hines team owner Byron Hines, “except that we did not retain the championship that Eddie earned with the team in 2008. In 2010, we’ll be racing to put the number 1 back on one of the Screamin’ Eagle V-Rods.”

The Screamin’ Eagle/ Vance & Hines team will be racing the same Harley-Davidson V-Rod motorcycles the team campaigned in 2009. Those bikes featured a new fuel-injected V-Twin engine with four-valve cylinder heads and dual overhead camshafts, resting in a new racing frame designed by Vance & Hines. Before the fifth race of the 17-event 2009 season, the NHRA increased by 20 pounds the minimum weight of the team’s V-Rod bikes, from 620 to 640 pounds, part of NHRA’s ongoing efforts at maintaining competition and parity within the category. The minimum weight of Buell (625 pounds) and Suzuki (595 pounds) motorcycles was unchanged. For 2010 the team will further develop the transmission to accommodate this added weight, according to Byron Hines.

“We always seem to have to work a little harder,” said Byron Hines, “but this team is so talented that we always find a way to adapt to rules changes and new competition. I expect us to be back at the front of the pack again in 2010.”

Creating a V-Twin Challenger
Harley-Davidson and Vance & Hines Motorsports created the Screamin’ Eagle / Vance & Hines team in 2002 to compete in the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle division, and to develop a drag-racing motorcycle powered by a V-Twin engine to challenge the dominance of four-cylinder engines in NHRA competition. In 2004, the team won the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle world championship as Andrew Hines won three races and, at age 21, became the youngest professional champion in NHRA history. It was also the first NHRA title won by a V-Twin-powered motorcycle. Andrew Hines went on to ride a Screamin’ Eagle / Vance & Hines V-Rod to the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle championship again in 2005 and 2006. Krawiec joined the team in 2007, and in 2008 became only the second racer in NHRA history to earn a national title without winning a national event during that racing season. Krawiec qualified seventh for the five-race Pro Stock Motorcycle Countdown to One playoff, and then won 14 of 20 possible Countdown rounds to clinch the championship during the semi-final round of the season’s final event in Pomona, Calif.

In 2009, Krawiec made it to the finals 10 times, winning five of those races. He also placed second in the Countdown to the Championship playoffs during the final five races of the season, just two points shy of repeating as champion. His Screamin’ Eagle / Vance & Hines teammate, Andrew Hines, won three events in four final-round appearances, and for the fourth time won the Ringer Gloves Pro Bike Battle bonus event in Indianapolis. Over a three-race stretch (Norwalk, Denver and Sonoma), Hines and Krawiec both advanced to the final round of eliminations. All totaled, the Screamin’ Eagle / Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson V-Rods won eight of 17 NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle events in 2009, the best results ever for the team.

A Team of Champions
Based in Indianapolis, Ind., the Screamin’ Eagle / Vance & Hines team is lead by Vance & Hines Motorsports owners Byron Hines and Terry Vance. The duo began racing together in 1972. With Hines as crew chief and Vance riding, they became a dominant team in national Pro Stock and Top Fuel motorcycle drag racing, earning 24 NHRA national victories before Vance retired from competition in 1988. Matt Hines, the older son of Byron, returned the team to drag-racing prominence, earning 30 NHRA event wins and 44 number-one qualifying awards in eight seasons. Matt Hines was the first NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle racer to win the championship in three consecutive seasons (1997-‘99). Matt Hines retired from racing in 2003 to become assistant crew chief for the Screamin’ Eagle / Vance & Hines team. Today, Matt Hines brings his competition experience to his role as crew chief of the Screamin’ Eagle / Vance & Hines team, making race-day tuning decisions and advising the team riders. Byron Hines leads engineering, development and tuning efforts for the team. The Vance & Hines organization has won 11 professional motorcycle drag racing titles.

In 2010, the Screamin’ Eagle / Vance & Hines team will pursue the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle title with two former champion riders, Andrew Hines and Eddie Krawiec.

Andrew Hines will turn 27 on May 25, 2010. He is a son of Vance & Hines Motorsports co-founder Byron Hines. Since making his professional debut in 2002, Hines has 18 NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle event wins and has won the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle championship three times (2004-‘06). He is also a four-time winner (2004, 2006-‘07, 2009) of the Ringers Glove Pro Bike Battle bonus event. In 2009, Hines won three NHRA events and made one other final-round appearances. He was also the No. 2 qualifier for the Countdown to the Championship playoffs and finished the season point race in third place.

Eddie Krawiec is 34 years old. He started motorcycle drag racing in 1999 and had nine wins in the AMA Pro Star series. He made his NHRA debut in 2004. In 2008, he won the Ringers Glove Pro Bike Battle bonus event at Indianapolis, qualified seventh for the Countdown to One playoffs, and won the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle championship. Krawiec was the number-one qualifier for the 2009 Countdown to the Championship playoffs, and won five times in 10 final-round appearances. He finished second in the season points.

The message, “Share the road, look twice for motorcyclists,” is being displayed on over 700 signs across the state. It would be good to see this up year round as long as there is noting else to report. Today I hear that motorcycle vs. car accents are up 41% and that 60% of those are fatal. Wesco boasts a full line of stock and custom boots including: Boss and Harness motorcycle boots, Motorcycle Patrol boots, Jobmaster work boots, Highliner boots for linemen and arborists, electrical hazard boots for power linemen and utility workers, and high quality boots for everyday wear.

“Wesco is truly the last of its kind. Our DVD tells the story of one of the only remaining
bootmakers in the U.S. that’s still building a made-to-order, custom product,” said Wesco
President Roberta Shoemaker, granddaughter of the founder. “We receive online orders from all over the world,” Shoemaker continued. “This DVD will give our customers a virtual tour of our Oregon factory and the opportunity to see the level of detail that goes into making each and every pair of Wesco boots. The custom fitting chapter’s step-by-step guidance will help customers take accurate measurements.”

“The Wesco Story” can be viewed online at www.wescoboots.com/dvd. Ninety-two years later, Wesco’s reputation for quality is known from Scappoose to Japan and most places in between.

About Wesco:

West Coast Shoe Company makes stock and custom-fitted boots for a wide range of occupational and recreational uses. All Wesco boots are manufactured using a meticulous 155-step process and American-made raw materials from the company’s single location in Scappoose, Ore., guaranteeing consistent quality and workmanship. Standard features on all Wesco boots include full-grain leather, double vamps, leather insoles and midsoles, and slip-in inserts. Special features are also available to customize boots. The exhibit is scheduled for August 7-13 and will focus on the explosion of interest and the passion for custom motorcycles seen over the last thirty years. Entitled, "Eternal Combustion- 30 in the Wind", this year's display poses the question, "How is this passion passed on through time?"

Thirty custom motorcycles recently built by 15 pairs of builders tied together by family, respect, friendship or apprenticeship will be on display at the impressive Lichter Exhibition Hall located on the grounds of the Sturgis Buffalo Chip. Builder teams highlighted within the show include: Arlen Ness & Paul Yaffe, Carl & Matt Olsen, Dave & Jody Perewitz, Donnie Smith & Brian Klock, Eddie Trotta & Todd Silicato, Kevin Baas & his Kennedy High School Chopper Class, Gard Hollinger & Satya Kraus, James & Dave Kaye, Jerry & David Covington, Kirk Taylor & Brian Schimke, Roland Sands & Drake McGillroy, Ron Finch & Gary Maurer, Ron & Hunter Simms, Sugarbear & Counts Customs.

In addition, the 6,500 square foot venue constructed primarily to house the notable exhibitions Lichter has curated, will for the first time, be adorned with Michael's photography. Celebrating his 30th bike week in Sturgis, he will be displaying the best from his archive of limited edition prints, including many images being premiered for the first time.

"This exhibit has been a total labor of love for me as it has been for 9-years," explains Lichter.

Working with these builders to pair them up, occasionally into a seemingly unlikely pairing at their own request, has been great. It will be great to watch their progress in the coming months. I love this work and I love this industry. Everyone who comes out to see this exhibit will be able to sense the passion felt by all those involved."

Lichter has been a staple in the motorcycle community for over thirty years, with his name ingrained in the minds and collections of enthusiasts around the world. This is Lichter's tenth year as curator for the premier Sturgis exhibition. The exhibit started back in 2001 with a display entitled 'The Biker Generation'. Since that time he has touched on a variety of appealing themes during the yearly exhibit including titles such as "One World Choppers", "Speed Demons" "Schools Out - Old School, New Skool" Last year's exhibit, "Rebel Rousers- Motorcycle Icons that Inspired Us to Ride" focused on the history of iconic motorcycle imagery that inspired many of us to ride. Through a poignant review of renowned motorcycles, art and movie memorabilia, fans were reminded of what originally fueled their passion for riding.

"Last year's exhibit was phenomenal, thousands of guests came to experience the display," states Sturgis Buffalo Chip owner, Rod Woodruff. "We're so enthusiastic for this year's show. Michael Lichter is truly a gifted artist and photographer and we're delighted to have his yearly exhibit at the Lichter Exhibition Hall here at the Sturgis Buffalo Chip."

Dead Center Cycles Smoothies offer a unique, clean look and allow the rider to access the bags contents while seated; simply reach back, disengage the compression latch, and open the lid outward. Latches are easy to use, lockable and recessed to maintain an uncluttered profile. Bags come complete WITH lids. And, all parts are manufactured using a closed mold fiberglass process ensuring consistent thickness and a smooth finish inside and out. Paint matching also available.
