i've been a bit paranoid due to the fact that i have limited edition number 1 of the machine. cory would never let me live it down if i wrecked the first of the series.

 i just got into town- sturgis, south dakota for the 70th version of the black hills classic.

 having ridden 1,500 miles before i got here i was still just as excited to get in some great riding. this is THE rally for those that like to ride. for that matter it's also the place if you're the type that likes to drink, look at bikes, parts, babes, and just about anything else you can think of.

i met up with michael lichter at the broken spoke county line this morning for a ride with a few hundred other people- all types of bikes; choppers, cruisers, and of course baggers. many of the major bike builders were in attendance to celebrate mike and legendary sugarbear. jay allen, owner of the BS was the leader and put on a great ride with a nice lemonade stop in the middle of the dakota plains. 

then it was more riding and to the sturgis speedway where we had a private running of the track. guys were racing hand shift choppers all the way to baggers on the 1/8 mile course. great times and awesome people.

seems like lots of activity and people here, more than in the past few years. the downside is crazy traffic in town and temps in the 100 degree mark.

off to the amd world champion park soon back in sturgis.

The B.A.D. Ride was initiated in 1997 right here in Southern California. Thirteen years later it continues to promote the vision of its founder, Rip Rose, to unite the biker nation in the fight against diabetes. Today, his dream is a reality-every year thousands of bikers join the movement to Stop Diabetes by participating in this fun event. Rose, was a photojournalist for Easyriders Magazine and a person affected by diabetes. He eventually passed away in 2000 from complications of diabetes and cancer. The American Diabetes Association pledges to carry on his mission. Last year's event alone raised over $250,000 and the Southern California Ride has brought in over $3 million dollars to-date. Proceeds from the ride funds diabetes research, education, and advocacy efforts.

Big Bear Choppers is mixing up the entertainment and turntables with the #1 Deejay in America, straight from the “JERSEY SHORE” Deejay PAULY D .and back by popular demand Special guest MC and star of Animal Planets “SHORTYS RESCUE” Shorty Rossi.

This year Big Bear Choppers is partnering with San Bernardino Professional Firefighters to make this the best Poker run in Southern California. Participants can choose from 2 starting locations, the first at Quaid Harley Davidson, and the second at the BBC facility in Big Bear Lake. Kevin Alsop from Big Bear Choppers will lead the pack from Quaid Harley Davidson in Loma Linda at 8am.  Entry Fee is $35 per poker hand and includes event entrance .T-Shirt and event pin. The run takes participants up the mountain, around the lake and throughout Big Bear Valley; all hands must be turned in by 2 p.m at the BBC Factory registration booth.

The Ride the Mountain Bike Show returns again this year with the coveted Big Bear Choppers trophies currently being fabricated at the facility. Big Bear has added more categories this year in order to attract more builders. Big Bear Choppers Class, Open Class, Custom Harley-(Frame and Motor must be a H-D) and the Classic Class (1983 or older) The Big Bear Choppers classes are free to enter. The fee for all other classes is $30.00 this includes event admission. Bike Show sign up is from 6 am to 9.30 am at the top of the Snow Summit parking lot. Judging is from 9.30 am to noon. Awards are presented at 2.30 p.m..

 COOLBETH RETURNS WITH HARLEY-DAVIDSON FACTORY TEAM
Racing for a Fourth Grand National Title in an Expanded Series

The Screamin’ Eagle® Harley-Davidson® Factory Team will contest the 2010 AMA Grand National series with three-time Grand National Twins champion Kenny Coolbeth riding the team’s Harley-Davidson XR-750 motorcycle.
 Coolbeth and the Harley-Davidson Factory Team will be racing together for a fourth Grand National Championship in 2010. Winners of three consecutive championships (2006-2008), the team placed second in the Grand National Twins series in 2009.

 Also returning for the 2010 season with the Harley-Davidson Factory Team are veteran technician Craig Lager and team engineer Brad Bishop.
 
The new season will see some significant changes in the Grand National series. After racing just nine times in 2009, the Grand National Twins motorcycles will line up for 13 events in 2010, including stops at six new venues: Yavapai Downs in Prescott Valley, Ariz.; Gas City I-96 Speedway in Gas City, Ind.; The Red Mile at Lexington, Ky.; Calistoga Fairgrounds in Calistoga, Calif.; Canterbury Park near Minneapolis, Minn.; and Knoxville Speedway in Knoxville, Iowa. For the first time since 2005, the Grand National Championship will combine points earned at separate events for twin-cylinder and single-cylinder motorcycles. The Grand National Singles will race eight times on short-track oval and TT courses, while the Grand National Twins compete on half-mile and mile ovals. The entire schedule includes 21 events. Because Harley-Davidson does not manufacture a single-cylinder motorcycle model, the Harley-Davidson Factory Team will race only at Grand National Twins events.
 “I’m glad the season will include more races,” said Coolbeth. “Last year the season was so short that if you had a bad night, or got injured like I did, it had a huge impact on your chances of winning the championship. You felt like you had to finish on the podium in every race, even if the bike wasn’t working well. So then maybe you push it a little too hard. We are also looking forward to racing at these new venues, and putting the thrill of Grand National racing on the Harley XR-750 in front of new fans.”
 The Harley-Davidson XR-750 has been the dominant motorcycle in the Grand National Twins class for a generation, but with the new season comes new rules. For 2010 a rule change will require all teams racing an XR-750 to use a new 32mm intake restrictor plate, which is slightly smaller than the 33mm restrictor used in recent seasons. This will negatively affect power output and response, according to Coolbeth.
 “We tested with the new restrictor, and I could feel it a little *** said Coolbeth. “I think I’ll notice it most on cushion tracks, like Lima and Beulah Park, where you want power instantly. Now the bike is a little less responsive. But I think the other brands that are racing in Grand National Twins are already making plenty of power. Our advantage is in handling and set-up, because we’ve got so much experience with the XR-750 package.”
 
The Harley-Davidson Factory Team will open the 2010 season at Yavapai Downs in Prescott,  Ariz., on May 1.

This bolt-on air intake replaces the entire stock system, giving a custom look with an aerodynamic style and improved performance because of its better air flow.

 Screamin’ Eagle®/Vance & Hines rider Eddie Krawiec rode a Harley-Davidson® V-Rod® to win the opening round of the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle season at the Tire Kingdom NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway. Krawiec defeated Rum Bum Buell rider Shawn Gann in the final round of eliminations.

 Krawiec prevailed over a very quick field of NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle riders. Eight of the 16 bikes qualified for the event with a run under 6.9 seconds, and all but three were under 7.00 seconds. Suzuki rider Karen Stoffer topped qualifying with a 6.855-second run in the last round of qualifying to set a new track record for the class, and established a new national ET record for Pro Stock Motorcycle with a 6.851-second run in the first round of eliminations. Krawiec qualified second at 6.868 seconds. His Harley-Davidson V-Rod teammate Andrew Hines was fifth in qualifying at 6.883 seconds.

Krawiec advanced to the finals with a win over Coffman Tank Trucks Buell rider Angie Smith in round one, a free pass in round two when Suzuki rider Steve Johnson fouled at the start, and a very close win over Valvoline Suzuki rider Craig Treble in round three. Krawiec used a 6.903 ET to overcome a reaction time of 0.076 seconds to get past Treble (0.011/6.971) and win by just 0.0033 seconds.

“I almost gave it all away in the third round,” said Krawiec. “I had a terrible start but used that V-Rod power to get past him right at the end. I think I won by just a few inches.”
There was no drama in the final round, as Krawiec posted a 0.045/6.899 run to defeat the 0.054/6.908 pass by Gann and take his sixth career victory.
“Once again we won by being consistent and steady,” said Krawiec who had runs of 6.864 (a new career-best ET), 6.856, 6.899 and 6.908 on the day. “We were really going to have to be on our game to win against this field. This is a great way to get the season rolling.”
Hines defeated Suzuki rider Jim Underdahl in round one, and went out in round two after leaving the line early. His reaction time in round one was 0.007 seconds.
"We were trying something a little experimental with my bike that we did not have an opportunity to test before the race, and didn’t quite have it dialed in,” said Hines. “It’s something we can fix before the next race, now that we have a baseline. This was a tremendous field, and it’s clear the other teams were doing some R&D work in the offseason. I think 2010 is going to be a very competitive season.”
With one round of the 17-race 2010 NHRA Pro Stock season complete, Krawiec leads the class with 119 points. Gann is second with 94 points, followed by Stoffer with 84, and Geico Suzuki rider Hector Arana in fourth with 76. Treble is fifth with 75 points, followed by VRoom Racing Buell rider David Hope with 58 points, and Hines in seventh place with 54 points.

 Big Dog Motorcycles announced the upcoming introduction of a lower price model based on its popular chopper-style platform. With production planned for May, 2010, the new model, simply called the Big Dog Chopper, will provide a high-style, high-quality Big Dog motorcycle experience with an MSRP in the $21,000 range.
