Ride was initiated in 1997 right here in Southern California. Thirteen years later it continues to promote the vision of its founder, Rip Rose, to unite the biker nation in the fight against diabetes. Today, his dream is a reality-every year thousands of bikers join the movement to Stop Diabetes by participating in this fun event. Rose, was a photojournalist for Easyriders Magazine and a person affected by diabetes. He eventually passed away in 2000 from complications of diabetes and cancer. The American Diabetes Association pledges to carry on his mission. Last year's event alone raised over $250,000 and the Southern California Ride has brought in over $3 million dollars to-date. Proceeds from the ride funds diabetes research, education, and advocacy efforts.

click on the images below for info on how to win a new 2010 Harley-Davidson Street Glide.

win a 2010 street glide (toph bocchiaro) |

Winners of three consecutive championships (2006-2008), the team placed second in the Grand National Twins series in 2009.

Also returning for the 2010 season with the Harley-Davidson Factory Team are veteran technician Craig Lager and team engineer Brad Bishop.

The new season will see some significant changes in the Grand National series. After racing just nine times in 2009, the Grand National Twins motorcycles will line up for 13 events in 2010, including stops at six new venues: Yavapai Downs in Prescott Valley, Ariz.; Gas City I-96 Speedway in Gas City, Ind.; The Red Mile at Lexington, Ky.; Calistoga Fairgrounds in Calistoga, Calif.; Canterbury Park near Minneapolis, Minn.; and Knoxville Speedway in Knoxville, Iowa. For the first time since 2005, the Grand National Championship will combine points earned at separate events for twin-cylinder and single-cylinder motorcycles. The Grand National Singles will race eight times on short-track oval and TT courses, while the Grand National Twins compete on half-mile and mile ovals. The entire schedule includes 21 events. Because Harley-Davidson does not manufacture a single-cylinder motorcycle model, the Harley-Davidson Factory Team will race only at Grand National Twins events.
“I’m glad the season will include more races,” said Coolbeth. “Last year the season was so short that if you had a bad night, or got injured like I did, it had a huge impact on your chances of winning the championship. You felt like you had to finish on the podium in every race, even if the bike wasn’t working well. So then maybe you push it a little too hard. We are also looking forward to racing at these new venues, and putting the thrill of Grand National racing on the Harley XR-750 in front of new fans.”
The Harley-Davidson XR-750 has been the dominant motorcycle in the Grand National Twins class for a generation, but with the new season comes new rules. For 2010 a rule change will require all teams racing an XR-750 to use a new 32mm intake restrictor plate, which is slightly smaller than the 33mm restrictor used in recent seasons. This will negatively affect power output and response, according to Coolbeth.
“We tested with the new restrictor, and I could feel it a little *** said Coolbeth. “I think I’ll notice it most on cushion tracks, like Lima and Beulah Park, where you want power instantly. Now the bike is a little less responsive. But I think the other brands that are racing in Grand National Twins are already making plenty of power. Our advantage is in handling and set-up, because we’ve got so much experience with the XR-750 package.”

The Harley-Davidson Factory Team will open the 2010 season at Yavapai Downs in Prescott, Ariz., on May 1.

Racing for a Fourth Grand National Title |

The program, which began in the mid-90s, converts the winner's motorcycle into a trike.
The winner is the person chosen from the entries that, despite physical or financial means, continues to make a positive impact in the lives of others and illustrates the program's motto of 'One good turn deserves another'.

The “Good Turn Trike” idea originated in the mid-1990’s when a lady called Lehman about her husband, Bob, and his love of motorcycles. Bob’s leg amputation and deteriorating health made it impossible for Bob to do the one thing that he truly loved, riding. Lehman Trikes generously decided to install a conversion kit on Bob’s bike including needed special equipment at no charge. Since that first “Good Turn Trike,” Lehman Trikes has donated a number of conversions to individuals, on a case by case basis. Simply stated, Lehman has decided to permanently add the “Good Turn Trike” program to their long list of other firsts.

For more information or to participate in the “Good Turn Trike” Program, please click here for application or contact:
Lehman Trikes USA, Inc.
Phone: 605-642-2111
Toll Free: 1-888-3WHEELS (1-888-394-3357)
________________________________________________________

Good Turn Trike program still open for entries |

Krawiec defeated Rum Bum Buell rider Shawn Gann in the final round of eliminations.

Krawiec prevailed over a very quick field of NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle riders. Eight of the 16 bikes qualified for the event with a run under 6.9 seconds, and all but three were under 7.00 seconds. Suzuki rider Karen Stoffer topped qualifying with a 6.855-second run in the last round of qualifying to set a new track record for the class, and established a new national ET record for Pro Stock Motorcycle with a 6.851-second run in the first round of eliminations. Krawiec qualified second at 6.868 seconds. His Harley-Davidson V-Rod teammate Andrew Hines was fifth in qualifying at 6.883 seconds.

Krawiec advanced to the finals with a win over Coffman Tank Trucks Buell rider Angie Smith in round one, a free pass in round two when Suzuki rider Steve Johnson fouled at the start, and a very close win over Valvoline Suzuki rider Craig Treble in round three. Krawiec used a 6.903 ET to overcome a reaction time of 0.076 seconds to get past Treble (0.011/6.971) and win by just 0.0033 seconds.

“I almost gave it all away in the third round,” said Krawiec. “I had a terrible start but used that V-Rod power to get past him right at the end. I think I won by just a few inches.”
There was no drama in the final round, as Krawiec posted a 0.045/6.899 run to defeat the 0.054/6.908 pass by Gann and take his sixth career victory.
“Once again we won by being consistent and steady,” said Krawiec who had runs of 6.864 (a new career-best ET), 6.856, 6.899 and 6.908 on the day. “We were really going to have to be on our game to win against this field. This is a great way to get the season rolling.”
Hines defeated Suzuki rider Jim Underdahl in round one, and went out in round two after leaving the line early. His reaction time in round one was 0.007 seconds.
"We were trying something a little experimental with my bike that we did not have an opportunity to test before the race, and didn’t quite have it dialed in,” said Hines. “It’s something we can fix before the next race, now that we have a baseline. This was a tremendous field, and it’s clear the other teams were doing some R&D work in the offseason. I think 2010 is going to be a very competitive season.”
With one round of the 17-race 2010 NHRA Pro Stock season complete, Krawiec leads the class with 119 points. Gann is second with 94 points, followed by Stoffer with 84, and Geico Suzuki rider Hector Arana in fourth with 76. Born on the Rubicon Trail when an off-road enthusiast needed to change a universal joint, the portable vise is an invaluable tool for mechanics, racers, contractors or anyone that needs to make repairs on the go.

Engineered to mount in a trailer receiver like a traditional ball mount, the D-Vise weighs only 17 pounds, yet has all the features of a full-size 8-inch vise, including high-grip SlipNot surfacing jaws, a convex pipe holder and a built-in CNC-cut adjustment wrench. The compact design allows it to fit easily behind the seat of a truck or in most tool boxes. Using the Trail D-Vise is simple, just slide the vise into the receiver and tighten it down with the included Mac's billet wrench. To prevent theft, the hitch pin cannot be removed without a socket or wrench once the Trail D-Vise is slightly tightened down in the receiver.

Everyone from plumbers to bikers will have a use for the Trail D-Vise. The jaws will easily hold 2"x4" or pipe tubes for contractors on worksites. Fishermen and hunters can make equipment adjustments right at their vehicle. Every motorsports fan has experienced the disappointment of a day on the trail or at the track with broken parts. The Trail D-Vice can make the difference between a day behind the wheel or on the trail and a day spent sitting in the pits. The Trail D-Vise can even be mounted to a work bench using the optional square tube table receiver. It's perfect for small or temporary work spaces. Like all Mac's Custom Tie-Down products, the Trail D-Vise is designed and manufactured in the USA with the highest quality domestic materials.

Mac's Custom Tie-Downs was founded in 1993, when founder Colin McLemore realized there was a need for high quality tie-down systems for trailers and truck beds. Female motorcyclists have been the fastest growing demographic in the motorcycle industry since 1990, when women represented just three percent of riders. Today, women represent 23 percent of all motorcyclists , and in an effort to encourage this growing trend of women hitting the open road, Harley-Davidson is celebrating National Garage Party Month by hosting nearly 400 Garage Party events at dealerships across the country in March.

“Garage Party events have encouraged thousands of women to learn to ride over the past few years,” said Leslie Prevish, women’s outreach manager for Harley-Davidson Motor Company. “The events help educate and build confidence for new female riders, and March kicks off the beginning of riding season, so it’s the perfect time to get women involved.”
As part of National Garage Party Month, the Motor Company is kicking off a sweepstakes that will run March 1 - 31, 2010, where one woman and three of her friends will be rewarded with a spa retreat weekend in Los Angeles to learn to ride through the Rider’s Edge® New Rider Course. The lucky women will also meet TV wellness expert Jillian Michaels, and get some tips on leading a healthier life. Michaels, a Harley-Davidson rider and life-long motorcycle enthusiast, recently forged a partnership with the Motor Company to encourage more women to participate in the sport. Women can enter the sweepstakes by attending a Garage Party event or online by visiting www.h-d.com/garageparty.
GARAGE PARTY EVENTS
Garage Party events, hosted by Harley-Davidson dealers since 2005, have been developed specifically for women, creating an intimidation-free zone and an opportunity for female riders in local communities to connect with one another. These free events are designed to be both fun and educational – covering topics such as a review of the basic motorcycle controls, how to customize a motorcycle’s style and ergonomics, and how to gear up for a ride. During Garage Party events, the attendees are organized into small groups, getting their first taste of the camaraderie that goes along with riding.
Groups visit four informational seminars throughout the event, including:
• Motorcycle Orientation: learn the basics of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle model families.
• MotorClothes®: discover the differences between riding and non-riding gear.
• Customization: learn how to customize a motorcycle to reflect a rider’s personal style and fit any body type using the H-D® Fit Shop™ at participating dealers. The H-D® Fit Shop™ experience illustrates the benefits of tailoring a motorcycle to the rider.
• How to Pick-up a Motorcycle: find out how to handle the weight of a motorcycle, including an interactive experience demonstrating how to pick up a dropped motorcycle – for those who are interested in trying it out.
Women interested in taking the next step can also visit www.h-d.com/roadmap to access the Harley-Davidson ®Roadmap to Riding online tool. Through several simple milestones, women will get the tips, advice and confidence they need to turn their dream of riding into a reality.
