Baggers Tested | Hearing Dynamics Custom Earphones - Baggers Magazine
We want to start by saying that we love the sound of a V-twin motor hauling down the highway, but at the same time ,we love our hearing. A way to get both while adding some tunes to the ride is with a set of custom-fit JH-5M earphones ($499)made by Hearing Dynamics. We used to ride with generic ear buds before we got the JH-5M’s and always needed to crank our music to the loudest level, but still could barely hear our music over the bike and road noise. The music also always sounded distorted and our ears would hurt after the ride because of the loudness level and the pressure of the helmet against the ear buds. We would spend a lot of time trying to get our hands under the helmet to get the ear buds to sit right, but they would always move around. The JH-5M is the perfect solution; now we just put our custom-made earphones in, slip on the helmet, keep the volume low, and enjoy the ride.
Hearing Dynamics along with JH Audio has moved into another segment of the market: custom-fit earphones for motorcycle riders. With Hearing Dynamics’ exclusive agreement, the two companies have crafted a twin-driver In-Ear Monitor (IEM) for riders who demand the best in sound. The earpiece is countersunk so that it fits within the ear completely. Also, the cable comes out of the bottom of the driver for easy replacement.
The JH-5M Line is custom-made especially for those that need a low-profile deign. They are extremely comfortable and they stay in your ears no matter how fast you ride. They block out more than 25 dB of noise so you can keep your music at a low level. We have our iPod at less than half the volume we used to and can hear our music perfectly as well as environmental sounds around us. In addition, we are not permanently damaging our hearing by blasting our music over the outside noise. Each earphone is personally custom-made to fit only in your ears, made from a casting of your own ears. For more info about Hearing Dynamics, call (201) 960-3714 or visit hearingdynamics.net.
The first thing we needed to do was get fitted for the new earphones. Hearing Dynamics gave us a list of audiologists in our area to get the castings made. In less than one hour, we had an ear exam done and a set of custom-made impressions.
The impressions are made of a silicone-like material that was dry to the touch in about 10 minutes. All we had to do was box them up and mail them out to Hearing Dynamics.
In two weeks we had a custom set of custom-fit crafted twin-driver In-Ear Monitors with a 50-inch cord and a 3.5mm plug. They came in a custom case along with a tool to clean the IEMs and a set of impressions. Should we ever need to re-order, we would not need to get refitted.
If you were to ever damage the cord, it can be replaced without having to send them back to Hearing Dynamics because the cord plugs into the custom IEM instead of being sealed in.
