(1.)This is the layout of the license plate and taillight as it comes from the factory on an '08 Road Glide.
(2.)We began our conversion by pulling off the plate mount from the grab bar.
(3.)We removed the OE taillamp and replaced it with a taillight that does not have a license plate light on top.
(4.)Though the new signal bar looks the same as the one we removed, it has a license plate light located in the bottom of the mount.
(5.)We then installed the black powdercoated license plate mount and adjusted it as per the included instructions.
(6.)The kit comes with this nice cover that blocks off the holes in the grab bar left by the removal of the license plate.
(7.)We finished off the installation by bolting up the license plate and using thread locker on the bolts so we won't lose the plate somewhere on the road.
(8.)With this simple top-to-bottom license plate conversion, anyone can have that Street Glide look on his or her '99-08 FL Bagger.
It is no secret that we here at Baggers don't care for Harley-Davidson's chosen license plate location on its late-model touring bikes. We just think it looks out of place above the fender and grown tired of scraping our boots and bending the plate when mounting our bikes. When the Street Glide was introduced in 2006, it came with a nice-looking under-the-taillight license plate mount which we have been retrofitting our bikes with ever since. The parts are quality in both fit and finish as you would expect from Harley-Davidson. They require only a little know-how and a few handtools to install.
