Built to Run Hard

It can sometimes feel like a heavily burdened task to design a bike from the ground up. With basically limitless options and a bevy of support from available aftermarket parts, the phenomena can be likened to dining at your favorite restaurant and encountering “menu madness.” What that amounts to is, too many options to be able to choose just one. Most any of the flavors would be a welcome choice, but nobody wants to suffer from buyer’s remorse or the deeper affliction, coulda, woulda, shoulda.

Randy Lopez, of Seductive Custom Cycles in Tracy, California, knew exactly what he wanted when he chose to build this ’06 Road Glide. Randy summed it up perfectly, “We took this bike in with the intention of making it a custom we could ride at 100 miles an hour.” Now that is a direction we can certainly agree with. Originally purchased from the adoption center (auction), Randy and his son, Randy Jr., jumped into it with the idea of creating a simple and chromed machine that could do burnouts and get a little sideways. The Road Glide was torn down to the frame and the modifications began with a Hawg Halters raked neck and tree kit supporting Arlen Ness Deep Cut fork legs. Rolling affair was chosen in plus size DNA for dramatic flair. A 23-inch Lust wheel was wrapped with a Fat Katz fender while a matching 18-incher got a Klock Werks fender out back. Getting the Glide down tight over the Avon Cobra tires is a suspension combination from Progressive and Legends Air Ride.

Although the appearance of the bike would lead you to believe very little was changed, don’t let that fool you. Besides the fenders, the Lopez family added a Fat Katz fuel tank, Arlen Ness saddlebag extensions, and LED taillights. Where most of the real hidden work lies is in the audio system. This bike simply rocks! If we didn’t let you onto the secret, you would be hard pressed to count all the speakers, because the Road Glide is carrying 16 speakers in all. Four of the Hertz speakers are hidden cozily inside the fork opening of the Glide’s front fairing. An additional six are situated in plain view interspersed between the factory speaker locations with tweeters replacing many of the fairing gauges. It is very clear the lids of the stretched saddlebags have speakers, but opening them reveals two more music shouters per bag, along with the necessary JL amplifiers. A Kenwood head unit replaced the original and controls the ear-splitting decibels.

From the outset, Randy and Randy Jr. wanted to get a little rowdy with this bike. The 88-inch in factory form is woefully inadequate for those types of antics so more power was mandatory. Seductive had the original cylinders bored out to accommodate CP pistons, which brought the total to 95 cubic inches. A full valvetrain from S&S ensures the mill breathes properly through the Paul Widger ported heads. Sucking through an Arlen Ness Big Sucker and exhaling out a chrome Thunderheader, the TTS controlled V-twin laid down an impressive 112 horsepower and 118 lb-ft of torque. The Lopez duo have no plans to further modify the engine anytime soon, so that must be enough to keep their tire-smoking needs filled for the time being.

After outgrowing their home shop, the Lopez family opened Seductive Custom Cycles in July of 2009 and hasn’t looked back. Randy Jr. grew up helping out his dad and in doing so has shown his dad that he can hang with the best of them, even at the ripe young age of 19. Randy Jr.’s buddies call him the Doogie Howser of bikes. We can’t say that’s far from the truth, seeing as how the kid is a certified S&S technician along with being dyno and EFI tuning certified. Thanks to qualifications like those, we’re pretty sure the family will be supplying us with another feature in the very near future. If you are ever in the Tracy area, be sure to look them up. It’s easy to find the shop, just look for a rubber-slinging Road Glide with the stereo turned up so loud it hurts. B
