Perfection is a word used to describe something that can’t be topped or get any better. After several rebuilds of this same bagger, a feature story in Hot Bike magazine, and a strong desire for THE badass bike of all time, Tyler Foster, owner of Sikpipes exhaust has finally reached perfection of his 2002 H-D Road King.
Most bike enthusiasts that prepare for Daytona Beach Bike Week prepare their new builds months or even a year in advance to the spring bike event in Florida. Tyler Foster spent less than a month. Tyler’s Road King was once an all-murdered-out machine dubbed Black Menace. He spent tons of time on it tearing the highway up with his loud pipes all over Pennsylvania as a rolling display of the extreme exhausts he hand-makes.
As social media and entertainment change like fashion, so does Tyler’s desire for advertising his product, which forced him back to the drawing board one more time. Just weeks before of Daytona Beach Bike Week 2012, Tyler was able to turn his Black Menace into literally one “Sik H-D” as his license plate states. Once it hit the sun, sea, and sand of Daytona, it was one of the most talked about, photographed, and traffic-stopping cycles during bike week. If Tyler had one dollar for every picture taken by tourists, cycle enthusiasts, photographers, or anyone with a picture-taking device, he could retire early and just spend the rest of his life without any sort of worry.
During the day in Daytona Beach, if you thought you spotted Tyler’s H-D, you might have thought you only saw half a bike as the first color that popped out at you was black with the bright sun blasting the green out of sight. At night, you get the same feeling when you only see the bright green with flake as the black fades into the night. Either way, his H-D is one of those types of eye puzzles that make you squint your eyes all funny so you can try and figure out the colors as they crash together separated only by a tribal striping. When your eyes finally focus and you get a great overall view of Tyler’s H-D, your eyes will blur away again as you find his cherry on the top: a badass skull mounted on the left-side motor mount that matched the new paint scheme to keep an eye on Sikpipes’ rolling advertisement.
Three weeks before bike week, as Tyler stripped his H-D of all its old parts, he started his rebuild based around an all-new Twisted front wheel from SMT. On the front of the H-D he installed a new caliper by HHI, a new flush-mount front axle, an extended nacelle and headlight as well as a lip spoiler by TJD Customs. Topping off the frontend was a 26-inch Foreskin fender by B’Cool.
Tyler designed his new serrated floorboard/pegs and sent his plans to Joe Mathews who machined them by hand, making them truly one of a kind. Tyler also added a new blacked-out Wimmer air intake and a custom seat by C&C Seats to match the new graphic paint scheme. To top it off, all his chrome engine pieces were sent over to Retro Powdercoating for a matte-black makeover. While Tyler was changing the look of his engine, he took advantage of the time to add a 97ci big bore kit. Tyler also looked to Performance Machine for a new cam cover, gas cap, and grips. On the backside of his bike, Tyler upgraded to LED tail lights, Mohawk saddlebag lids, and he went the extra mile by carpeting the inside of his bags.
In Tyler’s mind, a kickstand was a thing of the past, so he designed up a new center stand to sit his H-D straight up. The new custom center stand designed in his shop puts his cycle extremely low to the ground. To go along with the new center stand, Tyler installed a new air ride by Platinum Air Ride. The last piece Tyler added to the new look of his Road King, was what he does best: exhausts. Tyler added his newest bullet-tip exhaust, dubbed the Diablo.
During all the powdercoating and installing of new components to Tyler’s H-D, he was busy working on something he’s not even known for, painting. Tyler started out with keeping a black basecoat that he loved on the bottom half of his cycle. On the top half, he went with Synergy Green and split the two colors with a tribal striping in signal yellow and lime green. Underneath the green half, if you look close enough, there are subtle skulls in the base.
Tyler insists this is the last makeover for this bike. “I’ll build another H-D before I ever change a thing on her this time,” he promises. Besides after all the hype and applause regarding this redesigned H-D, Sikpipes is already entertaining phone calls to build a few custom bagger builds in the near future. In short, Tyler’s revamp was completed to perfection. Yes, Sikpipes did it again. B
