Road To Damnation

1999 H-D Road King
Doug Dennison has been into motorcycles and hot rods for a long time. Like many of us he started on dirt bikes and eventually moved up to Big Twins. He's also a serious painter, working mostly on street rods and bikes. Back in '99 Doug bought a new Road King and finally started thinking about customizing it last year. He knew he wanted it to look like a long low hot rod with no frills, like a fat tire slammed stance Merc, but wanted the paint to be radical. Not the same old reds and yellows like most bikes he'd been seeing, but something different, maybe even a little evil. The bagger was the perfect platform. Doug knew there would be plenty of room for custom paint.

Doug had always been into the Ghostrider comic books and thought the perfect look for the bike would be that '70s kind of evil green, just like the comic books. He began flipping through his collection of comics until he stumbled upon the issue titled "Road to Damnation." It was exactly what Doug had in mind.

Since the paint was going to be the centerpiece of the bike, Doug wanted to take it to another level, so he went to his friend Juan Pesta for the graphics and Doug hand-mixed the candy paint himself. Right down to the pearl blue flames, which can be seen only in just the right light. When the paint was finished the name for the bike became obvious to Doug. He decided to call it "Green Hell".

The bike itself is anything but stock. Doug threw in some Branch heads, cams, valves, intake manifold, and a Mikuni carb. To get that fat, slammed stance he put on a Perse frontend and 18-inch wheels, with a 180 tire in the rear. Keeping with the theme the tank was stretched.

Doug also wanted to clarify that the bike had nothing to do with the movie, the movie came out after the bike was finished. Not that he had anything against the movie; the comic book is just better, that's all. They always are.
