2006 Jack Daniel's Harley-Davidson FLHX - Old No. 7

Bert's Jack Daniel's Street Glide

There are probably no two better known "bad boy" images than Harley-Davidson and Jack Daniel's. Each was adopted early on by outlaws as a way of life to show society at large that they were drastically different from the suburban masses. Chances are by having this magazine in your hands, you know all about the image that Harley-Davidson evokes, but in case you don't know a thing about Jack Daniel's or J.D. as it's commonly known, here's a mini history lesson. J.D. is a sour-mashed liquor aged in oak barrels that gives aging rock stars the ability to still kick out the jams and make normally ugly people desirable when the words "last call" are shouted. This elixir was first distilled in Lynchburg, Tennessee, circa 1866, and it is made in the exact same place and way today. To say that a few people like Jack Daniel's whiskey would be an understatement.

When thinking of what he wanted to do to his bone-stock '06 Street Glide, Bert Hinahon who hails from Oxnard, California, decided to mix the two aforementioned loves and came up with a Jack Daniel's theme bike that grabs both attention and respect wherever it rolls. Starting with a vivid black bike, Bert knew that he wanted to keep the color, but wanted to murder it out by flatting the paint and adding various Jack Daniel's motifs to it. To get the taildragger look he was after, Bert first lowered the bike 2 inches up front with a Progressive Suspension kit. Out back he bolted up a Bike Buddy Pro Hi-Lo air ride system to get it on the ground. Bert then got his hands on an Arlen Ness Bagger-Tail rear fender coupled with a set of Ness' stretched Big Bags and a custom stitched leather solo seat. To complement the look of the new tail section, a CycleVisions Eliminator taillight/license plate holder in black was chosen.

Once all the new parts were fitted, Bert had Humberto Hernandez spray the flat black paint and had Henry Segura handle the pinstriping and silver leafed graphics.

During this time Bert decided he was going to get rimmed up with 21-inch front and 18-inch rear Hogpro 6-pack wheels and rotors with Metzeler ME 880 black walls. To slow the bike down to legal speed, a set of black H-D calipers with chrome accents were used to handle all braking duties. When it came time to trick out the controls Bert liked how the bike fit him and didn't want to stray too far from the OE setup, so he kept the stock bars and added a set of Performance Machine hand controls and grips.

Wanting the bike to be just a tad faster Bert had Bill Greenrock do some of his handy work to the engine by installing a Kryakyn Crusher 95-inch kit that includes a set of Wild Things forged heads, forged flat top big bore pistons, TC-26G gear driven cams, and a 50mm throttle body topped off by way of a Zipper's SE air cleaner with Jack Daniels accoutrement. A Jagg oil cooler also helps keep the now punched-out engine running cool and the chrome Rinhart true-dual pipes keep it sounding cool as well.

With a rather quick two-month build time, Bert had his dreams turned into reality and is now making long road trips throughout the western United States. As a matter of fact, we have ran into him both on the road to Las Vegas and in Central California. Bert really did build himself a simple and cool looking black and chrome FLHX. This bike did not fall into the trap that most theme bikes do by taking the given premise to Nth level with every part of the bike encompassing the subject matter. Bert knew when enough was enough and kept all the Jack Daniels bits and pieces tasteful and looking good, just like a shot glass full of J.D. should be.
