Carolina Custom Products, Inc. Bike Kits: BYOB

By HRBP Staff, Photography by Carolina Custom Products

In an effort to simplify the entire process of bike building, Carolina Custom Products (CCP) decided to innovate user-friendly software that dotted every "I" and crossed every "T." Their goal was to eliminate the frustration of trial and error and reward the customer with an enjoyable experience as well as the creation of a bike that was unique to the individual's choices.

The process of choices quite obviously begins with the type of bike the customer decides to build. The system will give options of different frame types, be it a rigid, Softail, chopper, or Pro-Street. This software will automatically display the options that work exclusively with each selection. This process continues in an orderly step-by-step selection that directs the customer until all decisions are made and the bike is completed and customized by the unique choices made. The software eliminates any margin for error. The end result is a bike that is truly unique to the customer's taste.

The single thing that most prompted Carolina Custom to design this software was the generic question that they received from their customers all over the country at bike shows and rallies: "How much does it cost to build a custom bike?" The only answer they could give was that it would depend on a very wide array of choices and details. They realized that this answer wasn't very informative or satisfactory for their customers.

On the other hand, it would be totally impractical for anyone in this line of business to individually price each component in a wide array of kits to hundreds of customers and maybe realize the sale of one kit. The software that they designed is sensitive to the price of each and every component that is chosen and will reflect the cost change as new options are added or existing options are changed. It is comforting to know that the options available will not allow the customer to make a mistake. What this means is that in your leisure time, in the comfort of your home and the absence of salespeople, you can create your own custom bike and be aware of pricing sensitivity to each and every selection they make.
