Monthly News from the Sturgis Motor-cycle Museum & Hall of Fame
HAPPY HOLIDAYS
Welcome to the all New "Monthly" Exhibit!
Our reason for going monthly rather than quarterly newsletter is simple. There is so much happening these days in the life of the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum and Hall of Fame, we are very ex-cited and feel the need to keep you up to speed on our plans, travels, events, and expansion progress.
NEW! Members Only Area on Sturgis Museum Website
If you go to www.sturgismuseum.com you will see several upgrades to the site. Video is the first and most obvious addition, but even better is the all new "Members" Page. Here you will find all kinds of cool stuff that will change weekly and even daily in some cases where the museum will "take you places you have never been before."
In November 2010 we traveled to Europe to Rosmalen, Netherlands to attend the Big Twin Dealer Expo. This is a custom bike show affiliated with the AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building held in Sturgis at the rally annually. In 2010 the major sponsors of the World Championship competition included Harley-Davidson Mo-tor Company and ACCEL Motorcycle Products to name a couple of the several companies supporting the event.
The Big Twin show had some very interesting and unique bikes competing. The Euro style is somewhat different, but no less works of art.
In addition to the bike show, this event is as stated above, an Expo. Some of Europe's largest parts distributors and dealers had exhibits. Companies like Custom Chrome Europe, and Motorcycle Storehouse to name a couple as well as many major retails stores and builders in the Euro Union.
The main sponsor of this show is a company by the name of Zodiac. They are friends of the museum and have been in the business since 1969. President Ton Pels and his son and V.P. Vincent Pels are also very active in the Euro Drag Racing seen and are in fact European Top Fuel Motorcycle Drag Racing Champions.
From the Netherlands, we then headed to the southeastern United States to see how the other half lives.....that being the Hot Rod Enthusiasts that gather for the annual Daytona Turkey Run held at Daytona International Speedway and sponsored by Daytona Beach Street Rods www.turkeyrun.com.
Within this enormous hot rod show was a custom bike show and our primary interest for going.
A video with complete coverage of both events is available to view on the members page of our website, www.sturgismuseum.com
In January 2011 we will make our way to the warmth of Southern California where we will visit several of the indus-tries top manufacturers of bikes, parts, and accessories. Among our stops with be a visit to see Sturgis Motorcycle Museum hall of Famer, Mike "Kiwi" Thomas at Kiwi Indian. Video coverage of the trip will be posted on our web-site.
