A reason to break away from the cold to get out and ride
OK, I will be the first to admit that I wasn't exactly stoked to be heading to Arizona for yet another Bike Week. I mean, didn't we just get back from a Bike Week in Daytona Beach, Florida? There were a couple of positive things: It was close enough to ride out, and spring in Arizona is always nice.
So we got out to WestWorld (the central location for the show), the weather was really nice, and I began to notice all of the out-of-state plates from places where there was still snow on the ground. Places like Colorado, Idaho, South Dakota, Washington State and even California. Then we took a look at the schedule of events (both official and unofficial), and we figured out that we were going to have to split up to cover more ground. There were no less than three things going on all at the same time, and they all involved riding--my kind of event!
Up at the north end of town, they were having all of the AHDRA drag races the entire time that the show was going on, so if you were tired of wandering around WestWorld, checking out the vendors and listening to the bands, you could always head up there. Or you could go check out the other vendors at The Hideaway up on Cave Creek Road or maybe head over to Swift or Sucker Punch Sallys for a tour of their state-of-the-art facilities.
Then there were all of the different rides that were led by some serious names in the bike aftermarket, like Brian Klock and Roger Bourget. There were all of the famous watering holes, and did we mention the nearly perfect weather? In a matter of a couple of days, it went from an event I was dreading to one that felt like it ended too soon. You can bet we won't make the same mistake next year!
