Biker Build-OffCanadian-StyleCanadians love a good bike build-off just as much as Americans do. The proof was in the popularity of Whistle-Stop Productions' Canadian Chopper Challenge. TSN, a Canadian Sports Network commissioned the five-part series where four of the best custom bike builders in the country were invited to build a themed machine on a limited budget in just 12 weeks. Each week featured an hour-long program on the builder with the final show proclaiming the winner in Toronto, Canada. The theme was fitting, it was none other than Canada's beloved sport; hockey. The folks at TSN figured since the NHL was out on strike, action-starved fans would appreciate the tribute. Up for the challenge were Bob McKay of McKay's Cycle Creations, Luc Leblanc, a one-man show out of New Brunswick, Canada, Tom Langton of Rumble Customs, and Ryan Robinson of RNR Cycle. The winner was veteran Bob McKay. With over 35 years of bike building to fuel his genius, it's not surprising he came home with the trophy. As you can see in his ride sponsored by Toyota trucks, the hockey theme is mostly in the paint. It was beautifully crafted, the front of the bike displaying hockey's early beginnings in1908. The rear fender brings the admirer up-to-date with the end of the NHL strike in 2005. Bob will return next season as show host and judge while the bike tours the 2006 automobile circuit.
