As the old saying goes “If you’re lucky enough to live in the Black Hills of South Dakota, you’re lucky enough.” That’s a true statement any way you look at it. Being able to do your motorcycle riding in the Black Hills makes you even luckier, and that’s how Bart Samuelson feels. His blower- equipped bagger, with Power Commander controller and Klock Werks exhaust can easily pull the hills, and blast the straights on the many scenic, smooth, well maintained roads in the area of Spearfish, South Dakota where Bart resides. Wiseco pistons replaced the H-D items to reduce compression for best performance with the blower. Spearfish is only 17 miles Northwest of Sturgis, South Dakota, arguably the biggest and baddest motorcycle rally in the world.
Back in ’09, Bart originally purchased the ’08 Harley-Davidson FLHX from Jerry Covington. It had custom wheels, and some Covington billet aluminum components installed. Bart sent the bike to Klock Werks, located in Mitchell in the Eastern part of South Dakota, to get spiffed up a bit, and have a ProCharger installed. These superchargers deliver huge, linear power when you need it, yet the motor runs normally when not heavy on the throttle. Superchargers “like” low compression as well, making the motor very tolerant to poor gasoline and heat in the summer.
Klock also installed his signature stretched saddlebags while Randy at Dakota V-Twin in Spearfish, handmade the fillers between the saddlebags and the Klock rear fender. Adding to the package was one of John Shope’s Sinister Industries stretched gas tank extensions that utilize the factory fuel tank along with a matching dash panel. After mocking up all the parts the sheetmetal was sent to Dimension Custom Paint and Body where the Street Glide was painted the Black and Silver seen here. The use of the graphic further emphasizes the smooth shape of the components with the gas tank flowing over the backbone, tying the front and back of the bike together.
Dakota V-Twin installed its proprietary Frenchie turn signals, and stretched the rear Klock Werks fender. Blacked out Battistini grips, foot controls, saddlebag latches, and floorboards add to the dark matter Raider theme. When in motion the rider hangs from Yaffe Monkey Bars, which are perched in H-D risers, and give Bart a little attitude without getting the South Dakota over-shoulder-level handlebar citation. No self respecting bagger rider would leave the shelter of the garage without some form of audio entertainment, so Bart went with a Hawg Wired amp and speaker setup to augment the Harley-Davidson receiver/stereo unit.
Bart is happy with how the Street Glide came out and there aren’t many better riding areas than the Black Hills and the varied areas and terrain within riding distance. After the initial purchase in Oklahoma from an industry veteran, the bike travelled east to one of the more respected bagger shops; sourced parts from another man from Arizona, well-known to this magazine, and then supported his local independent shop. We like stories like this and the bike speaks for itself. It has a classic, yet understated paint scheme and with the ProCharger this Glide has arm-stretching power that goes on forever. B
